Every problem a house develops for the next fifty years traces back to the framing. Bouncy floors, cracked drywall, doors that will not stay latched, roofs that peel back in a storm. All of it starts with how the structure went together, which is why framing is the last place to hire the cheapest crew.
Richard came up through framing. The North Group frames its own projects and takes on framing scopes for owners and builders who want the structure done by people who understand what every other trade needs from it.
Framing Scopes We Take On
- Full structural framing. Floor systems, walls, and roof structures for new homes and buildings, built square and plumb so cabinets, tile, and trim land the way they are supposed to.
- Addition framing and tie-ins. Marrying new structure to old is the hardest framing there is. Roofline tie-ins, floor elevation matches, and load paths corrected where the original build improvised.
- Structural repair. Sistering or replacing rotted joists, correcting sagging ridges, repairing termite and moisture damage, and installing beams to open floor plans.
- Hurricane and wind detailing. Strapping, hold-downs, and sheathing schedules that meet the wind requirements this region actually faces. We repair enough storm damage to frame like it matters, because here it does.
- Porches and structural decks. Framed porches, covered outdoor rooms, and the structural side of our deck construction work.
- Garage and workshop shells. Framed shells for garages and shops, coordinated with our new construction services when the project includes foundation and finish.
Framing for the Coastal Plain
Wind is the design load that matters here. A framed structure between the coast and the Sandhills needs continuous load paths from the ridge to the foundation: rafters strapped to walls, walls strapped to sills, sills anchored to concrete. Inspectors check some of it. Storms check all of it.
Moisture is the second enemy. Ground-contact treatment where wood meets concrete, correct flashing at every penetration, and ventilation details that let the assembly dry. Framing that ignores humidity in this climate starts rotting quietly within the decade.

Three Framing Calls We Get
The addition tie-in.
A builder or owner needs new structure married to a 1960s frame that has settled into its own opinions. Elevations get reconciled, loads get carried, and the seam disappears.
The sagging middle.
A floor with a trampoline spot or a roofline with a smile. We find the undersized or damaged member, carry the load temporarily, and correct the structure permanently.
The opened floor plan.
Two rooms becoming one across a bearing wall. Beam sized, posts landed on real footings, permit inspected. The drywall crew makes it invisible; the engineering makes it safe.
A note for owner-builders and DIYers: we are happy to be just the framing crew on your project. Construction Framing Questions, Answered
Can you fix my sagging floor or cracked ceiling line?
Usually, yes. Sagging floors typically trace to undersized or damaged joists, missing mid-span support, or moisture damage. We open it up, diagnose the actual cause, and correct the structure rather than shimming the symptom.
Do you frame additions onto older houses?
Constantly. Older homes around Robeson County are rarely level or square, so tie-in framing has to be adjusted rather than assumed. Matching floor heights and rooflines cleanly is the craft part of the job. Call (910) 785-9253 to talk through your addition.
Is your framing rated for hurricanes?
We frame to the wind provisions of the North Carolina residential code with full strapping and anchoring schedules. It is the same detailing we see save houses when we do storm repair work after a hurricane comes through.
Can you replace termite-damaged framing?
Yes. After treatment confirms the activity is gone, we remove compromised members, sister or replace structure, and correct the moisture conditions that invited the termites. The repair gets inspected before it gets covered.
Do you take framing-only jobs or full builds?
Both. We frame complete projects we are building, and we take standalone framing scopes for structural repairs, additions, and shells. Either way you get a written scope with a real timeline.
What is the difference between stick framing and trusses?
Trusses are engineered off-site, fast, and consistent, ideal for standard rooflines. Stick framing happens on site and wins for complex roofs, vaulted spaces, and remodels where nothing is standard. We use both and choose per project on span, design, and access rather than habit.
Can you open a load-bearing wall?
Yes. The work is sizing the beam and posts correctly, carrying the load temporarily while the structure changes hands, and getting the new path inspected. It is routine engineering, and it is also the repair we most often perform after someone else skipped that engineering.
Do you work from engineered plans?
Yes, and we prefer them on anything structural. Where a project needs engineering that does not exist yet, we bring in the engineer, get the load paths stamped, and build exactly to the letter. Framing from guesswork is how we end up repairing other people’s projects a decade later.
Framing Is Where Budgets Are Honest
Nobody photographs framing for the listing, which is exactly why cut-rate builds cut it there: wider spacing, smaller members, missing blocking, and connections gunned in without the hardware. It all disappears behind drywall for a decade, then reappears as cracked corners, bouncy floors, and doors that swing themselves.
We frame the opposite way because we are usually the ones called to fix those houses later. Straight, plumb, blocked, and strapped costs a little more in lumber and pays for itself every year the structure refuses to move.
